Best family farms and pick-your-own farms in the GTA

Last verified August 15, 2026

The best farm is not always the one with the longest activity list. This guide separates full-day play farms, animal visits, orchards and true pick-your-own trips so families can pay for the experience they actually want.

Fast recommendations

The best choice depends on the job of the day.

Most complete farm day

Downey’s or Brooks

Choose these when children want several hours of active play, animals and rides—not only picking.

Best balanced value

Springridge or Forsythe

Clear paid entry with enough activities for a purposeful half day.

Best apple-day atmosphere

Chudleigh’s or Applewood

Good when the orchard is the event; confirm the variety, picking charge and timed-entry rule.

Best free casual stop

Willowtree or Watson

Use the free basic experience and pay only when a separate event, PYO crop or food genuinely adds value.

Best small animal visit

Lionel’s or Carma

Shorter and less expensive than a full play farm; reservations or feed rules matter.

Best zoo-style farm outing

Oshawa Zoo & Fun Farm

A seasonal animal-centred visit with published 2026 day and season-pass prices.

Twelve detailed comparisons

Destination farms worth planning around.

01

Downey’s Farm

One of the GTA’s strongest all-day farm outings—best value for active children. Downey’s is closer to an outdoor family attraction than a simple pick-your-own farm. Its admission covers more than 40 activities, including jumping pillows, farm animals, wagon rides, mini golf, slides and farm-themed play. Families should compare a single visit with the season pass only after deciding whether four visits are genuinely realistic.

Caledon · $18.99 + HST per person ages 2–92 · Last verified August 15, 2026

02

Brooks Farms

A high-variety farm day with especially strong summer and fall appeal. Brooks Farms dedicates more than 10 acres to family play. The mix of animals, jumping pillows, pirate ships, a summer splash zone, wagon rides and themed festival weekends makes it a destination rather than a quick market stop. Its capacity notices matter: families should confirm the day’s status before a long drive.

03

Springridge Farm

A polished, easy-to-understand farmyard with particularly good weekday value. Springridge combines a manageable Fun Farmyard with an established bakery, market and scenic escarpment setting. The weekday price is the strongest value signal; weekend families pay more but still receive the same core farmyard access, including animals, slides, play structures and scheduled wagon rides.

Milton · Weekdays $10; weekends and holidays $14, ages 2–92 · Last verified August 15, 2026

04

Chudleigh’s Farm

A classic GTA orchard experience when the three-hour slot and current crop fit your family. Chudleigh’s packages its orchard, animals, nature trail, wagon ride and children’s play into a controlled three-hour visit. That makes planning predictable but leaves little flexibility for late arrivals. Apple availability is agricultural rather than guaranteed, so the ticket date and crop update should be checked together.

Halton Hills · Sample live general admission: adult $14.50; child $12.50; senior $13.50 · Last verified August 15, 2026

05

Pingle’s Farm Market

Strong when a specific Pingle’s event matches your date; not a general walk-around farm. Pingle’s changes through berry, flower, apple, harvest and holiday seasons. Event admission commonly bundles Playland and a wagon ride with access to a seasonal field, while produce and food are extra. The farm is working agricultural property and does not permit visitors to roam outside the designated event experience.

06

Andrews Farm Market & Winery

A broad three-season farm where advance booking and repeat-visit math can materially reduce cost. Andrews combines picking fields with animals, playgrounds, wagon rides, seasonal mazes, a market and winery. The important budgeting rule is that admission buys access—not the produce. Families who expect three or more visits should compare the 2026 season-pass price with their exact household composition.

07

Applewood Farm

A genuine picking-first farm; choose it for the crop, with play as the supporting activity. Applewood is built around strawberries, apples and fall harvest rather than a huge admission-based Playland. Families can add wagon rides, sunflower fields, a corn maze, pumpkins and a children’s area according to season. Crop timing—not a generic opening-hours page—should determine the visit date.

Stouffville · 2026 strawberry entry was $15 ages 4+ including a 2L basket · Last verified August 15, 2026

08

Forsythe Family Farms

A lower-key, educational farm day with good play-and-pick balance. Forsythe focuses on outdoor play, animals, trails and agricultural learning rather than high-intensity rides. Two playgrounds, bunny cuddling, scavenger hunts and weekend wagon rides suit families who want a calmer country outing. Pick-your-own enhances the visit but is priced separately by container or quantity.

Greenbank · Spring/summer: $10 weekdays; $13 weekends, ages 3+, plus HST · Last verified August 15, 2026

09

Round the Bend Farm

A good-value working-farm visit for younger children, without big-attraction pricing. Round the Bend offers animals, a straw maze, tube chute, forest seek-and-find, seasonal sunflower path and farm games in a compact working-farm setting. It is especially useful for families who want an educational, lower-cost visit rather than a commercial festival.

10

Lionel’s Farm

Excellent for a focused animal encounter—provided the family books the correct activity. Lionel’s is not a drop-in Playland. Families reserve either a one-hour Petting Farm visit or a shorter private pony activity, and the inclusions are different. That makes it calmer and more predictable than a festival farm, but arriving late directly reduces the booked experience.

Stouffville · Petting Farm $7 per person; animal feed $5 per bag · Last verified August 15, 2026

11

Willowtree Farm

The GTA’s clearest free everyday farm stop for younger children. Willowtree gives families a rare no-admission combination of farm animals and a modern playground beside a substantial market and café. It works best as a shorter outing or Port Perry stop. Seasonal picking and events can expand the day, but they should be budgeted and verified separately.

12

Oshawa Zoo & Fun Farm

A strong second-visit season-pass value for animal-loving Durham families. Oshawa Zoo & Fun Farm offers a relaxed mix of domestic and exotic animals with opportunities for close viewing, feeding and petting through fences. Its published family maximum keeps large-household day admission predictable, while the season pass can beat two single-day visits for many repeat visitors.

Seasonal farms require a same-year check.

A 2025 pumpkin ticket is not a dependable 2026 price. Where the new season is not published, PASS.ca says so instead of filling the gap with an old number.

Ten quieter PYO farms to check by crop.

These farms belong in the complete planning guide rather than 10 thin pages. Their value depends mainly on what is ripe this week, not on a large permanent attraction package.

Before buying

Ask five questions in this order.

  1. 1

Is the priority crop or activity open today? A farm can be open while one field, animal area or attraction is closed.

  2. 2

Is admission required before paying for produce? Add every required ticket, container and booking fee.

  3. 3

Is this a 60-minute stop or a four-hour play farm? Match the drive and price to the real visit length.

  4. 4

What does the youngest child actually use? Height, age and confidence matter more than the headline activity count.

  5. 5

What changes in rain? Fields, wagons, pillows and mazes do not behave like indoor attractions.

Budget alternative

For animal contact without a full attraction ticket, compare free and low-cost farms for kids.

Frequently asked questions

Farm planning answers.

What is the best farm near Toronto for toddlers?

Downey’s, Springridge, Brooks and Willowtree have especially clear toddler appeal. The first three are paid destination farms; Willowtree’s playground and animal experience are free.

Which GTA farms are free to visit?

Riverdale Farm, Far Enough Farm, Willowtree’s playground and animal area, and Watson Farms’ basic family-fun area are free under their published policies. Transportation, food, PYO produce and special events can still cost extra.

When is apple-picking season near Toronto?

Most GTA orchards begin with early varieties in late August and continue into October, but the exact crop window changes with weather and supply. Check the farm’s same-week crop update.

Do farm admission tickets include picked fruit?

Often they do not. Many farms charge admission for activities or field access, then charge produce by container or weight. Read both the admission and PYO rules before checkout.

Are GTA farms stroller friendly?

A sturdy stroller works at many farms in dry weather, but grass, gravel, orchards and muddy fields are not consistently accessible. Contact the farm if a smooth route or accessible washroom is essential.
